Time-in-State®(TiS) is a structured methodology, supported by a set of software tools, that facilitates problem definition, insight through data analysis, innovation and problem solving and measuring the success of the solutions.

How does Time-In-State®(TiS) work?



Problem Definition

This element defines the perceived issue, constraint, or need to be addressed. E.g. “Our performance needs to be improved” - Time-in-State®(TiS) is used to capture the current understanding of the process, perceived cause-and-effect relationships, and identify the data/information currently used to manage performance.

Software Tool:

This detail is captured into the Time-in-State®(TiS) application during a structured workshop. The method of execution contributes to change management.

Time-in-State®(TiS) maps extract data patterns and visualize cause-and-effect relationships. Innovative data visualization enables constructive participation of the client's team. No statistical knowledge is required to do interpretation.

Discovery of new knowledge and / or gaining insight into specific issues precede innovation. By combining perceptions and understanding, captured during the Problem Definition activity, with new discoveries delivers learning. Applying the systems approach provides opportunity to describe plant behavior at modular level - a great benefit when assessing complex production processes. It enables early warning of deteriorating performance and formulation of actionable information.

Software Tool:

Time-in-State's integrated data map facilitates a module's Optimum Operating Enveloped (OOE) definition. Factors affecting behavior become clear when assessing a module's behavior in the context its Optimum Operating Envelope definition. An OOE definition delivers an unbiased interpretation of data and describes how well a module complies with its optimum state. Implementing this performance metric provide opportunity to evaluate or develop new operating procedures, assess and manage production process performance, assess and track equipment performance, quantify operational risk exposure, evaluate impact of initiatives, etc.

'Problem Definition', 'Data Analysis', and 'Innovation' activities deliver an OOE definition that can be deployed to execute real-time data interpretation. Real-time data interpretation takes place via a web application and enables pro-active management of process and equipment performance. By tracking OOE compliance generates insight into:
i) Modules causing deviation from strategic objectives (model based root cause analysis)
ii) Effectiveness of initiatives, procedures and / or activities
iii) Opportunities for improvement.
